MUMSIE'S COTTAGE HOME PORTRAITS

 BE YES, THIS YEAR MY WORD IS SIMPLY BE. Each year I pick one word to be "MY word" having it be the word I focus on when jounaling, blogging, praying, Instagram posts, and other special places. I chose BE because it can be added to almost any set of words I choose to think of. 2020 has been a different and strange one and although we are all hoping that 2021 will be different, The change of a year does not change all we find hard and different in our lives. Yet I know we all in a spot that we want to work in having the lives we had prior to 2020. Be..... BE open to the positive changes we are all capable of.

My second Home was the Stassi home, one in my garden district neighborhood. As pretty as it is, still one of my favorites, I look at it and see just how much easier home portraits have become for me. At this time, people on my facebook garden district page was showing much interest and I had about 10 orders. I thought I was overwhelmed back then,.. Now sitting on over 80 orders. I still had not begun to paint on slate yet and was using floor tiles. I remember this one being a challenge for me as I did not know how I would do those hurricane shutters and the brick walk way. I was new in learning how to seal my work and on this particular one, I had to unseal and reseal twice.  Of course, I was a novice back then, would not have called myself an artist by no means at this time. How it all began, how Mumsie's Cottage became more than just a name for my home. Before this very first home portrait, I had been dabbling in scrapbooking, making photo frames, covering boxes with beautiful papers, making cards, etc. But painting, painting had been put on the back burner for many years. Let me go back a few years to when I was a childhood Cancer survivor and although my parents still did not know if I would ever live to see adulthood, they wanted to prepare me for the "what if" I could not play sports nor was I interested in that. My Dad, being an artist in his own right with his photography business and beautiful drawings and paintings, put me in private art lessons with a wonderful woman, Godlyn Serigny. I was 8 when I started and 16 when I ended,  8 years of private art lessons in the home of a woman I adored. Mumsie’s Cottage, Not only the name for my art business But becoming known for home portraits.  My work is all done by myself, in which I learn as much as I can about the home  I am painting, choose old music sheets to place on  Old slate and begin painting.  What makes my work diffferent from any others I have seen Is that I make each one personal with many Prayers being sent to whomever I am painting for.  I can now say confidently I am an Attist.  Yet each one of my work has some type of story or miracle That can be told about it.  In the New Year I hope to give the stories of each said piece done  and the stories that surrounded them.  Although I have over 70 orders,  I continue to take orders as I know There is something to be learned with each piece I do.  Please follow along with me on this journey.
